Art: That which was to be Lost [AR]
The purpose of this project is to collect pictures of work that would have otherwise been lost.
How many great, or at least very good, works of art will be put in a dumpster when the artist dies? If it wasn't for van Gogh's brother that would have been the case for much of his work. The work of poor, crazy William Blake was ignored for decades and could have been trashed. Don’t even think about what Botticelli did with his paintings.
But, it doesn’t have to be that way. In the 21st Century, digital images easily let us capture at least a copy of their work. This project collects the portfolios of those lesser-known and unknown artists.
Currently, there are (2) documents being developed within this Project: Art Anonymous and The Printmaker's Prints.

PROJECT - Art: That Which Was To Be Lost [AR]
DOCUMENT 1 [AR-01| - "Art Anonymous" is in its very early stage. It includes photographs of artwork by artists whose names are not known. Please add pictures of art (paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, or photographs – anything you consider to be art) that you have encountered, and for which the artist is unknown.
In adding artwork to this document, please give a basic reference for each addition. For example:
Artist known as Cedric, (1969). Coming to the City, oil paint on paper. San Francisco
But also add any related context. For example:
This and other paintings are apparently by the same artist who signed them with the name "Cedric." They were found in a trashcan in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco in the Summer of 1969. The other paintings have since been lost or destroyed.
If you will, try to convert each photograph you submit into the "png" (portable networks graphic) format. Relatively, "png" images provide the best quality of reproduction, while using the fewest KBs.
What to do: (1) Download the document Art Anonymous above (559 kb, ext docx); (2) look at it and read it; (3) make edits and additions using MS Word Track Changes; and (4) return your revised version of the document by email to PROresearch2000@gmail.com. If you don't want to edit it but have some comments about it, you can send those comments to the same email address or by using the Contact page of this website.
Acknowledgment: Of course, unless you'd rather remain anonymous, your name will be added as a contributor to that version and all subsequent versions of the Document.
DOCUMENT 2 [AR-02| - "The Printmaker's Prints" is almost complete. It includes the prints and paintings of a recently deceased printmaker who was recognized during his life, but never reach the fame of some of his contemporaries like Jasper Johns or Andy Warhol. Though a number of his prints are in museum collections, many are in storage awaiting an uncertain fait. This document includes photographs of those prints and paintings that are now public and those that yet may be public.
But - consider this document to be a “coming attraction.” Until the printmaker's estate is settled this document with those unseen works can’t be displayed here. As soon as the estate is settled, the document will be available to anyone who wants to see it, comment on it, edit it, or, if they have a print of his, to add a photograph of that print to the document. Stay tuned.
DOCUMENT 0 [AR-00| - You can start your own document about lost art – or even art that's not lost – for crowdsource development and editing. Just send us your idea and any draft documents relating to it. Of special interest is the work of artists who have never achIeved popularity or fame. As mentioned above, try to convert any images you submit into the "png" format.
