PROJECT - Africa Ascending [AF]

This Project attempts to predict and understand the impact of the economy, development and governance (and corruption and violence) of African states on the world as they soon become a major player in global stability and the world market.
AFRICA ASCENDING
[AF]
During the 2020s we will see a very different world - and Africa will have a say in what that world will be.
Already we know that China and India will lead, and to some extent may control, the global economy. But there is another global player ascending to prominence – Africa. With nearly 12 million square miles covering a fifth of the world’s land, with borders on the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, Mediterranean and Red Seas, and Suez Canal, and over a billion people, Africa is composed of 63 countries and territories. Oil discoveries are increasing along the coast of West African countries and at its horn; across the continent mineral and ore deposits are rich with 98% of the world’s chromium, 90% of the world’s cobalt and platinum, 50% of gold, and most of the world’s diamonds, as well as the majority of the world’s mobile (cell) phones. Yet, corruption and war have hobbled the continent’s development and its role in the world economy.
But, now as the global economy is becoming inseparably enmeshed, Africa will be forced to participate, and because of its resources and location its participation will be prominent. Yet war and corruption are likely to continue if not increase. And with its inevitable but difficult economic ascendancy will come the (re-)introduction of its culture and mores to the rest of the world.
Thus, a volatile new actor enters the world stage. This Project is dedicated to predicting what impact Africa is to have.
DOCUMENT 1 [AF-01|- Proposed is the Document “West Africa: Now & Next” that looks at countries such as Sierra Leone and Liberia, their increasing oil discoveries, war induced trauma and supposedly entrenched corruption – and predicts the impact they will have on the world as this part of the world develops.
What to do: (1) Download the Document "West Africa: Now & Next" above (41 kb, ext docx); (2) read it; (3) make edits and additions using MS Word Track Changes; and (4) return your revised version of the Document by email to PROresearch2000@gmail.com. If you don't want to edit it but have some comments about it, you can send those comments to the same email address or by using the Contact page of this website.
Acknowledgment: Of course, unless you'd rather remain anonymous, your name will be added as a contributor to that version and all subsequent versions of the Document.
DOCUMENT 0 [AF-00| - You can start your own document about the future impact of Africa for crowdsource development and editing. Just send us your idea and any draft documents relating to it.
Your ideas about Africa’s future impact on the world are needed.
